Had this song in my head for two days now, since I bought the CD..... gotta so something about it *laughs*
Ok, maybe I'm a little behind the times here, but I just recently discovered this band (quartet?). I was actually looking for a CD of another of my faves, Apoptygma Berzerk, and came across Apocalyptica and this album titled "Inquisition Symphony." Intrigued, I picked up the case, flipped it over, and perused..... lo and behold my eyes went wide.
Four Finnish men. Four cellos. Metallica. (Pantera, Faith No More, and Sepultura, too, but the Metallica caught my eye)
Looking at the date I realized that this CD was two years old *L* Never even heard of them before.... and I've been listening to Metallica since 80 somethingorother. Course, after the Black album came out I'd only hear it when the radio overplayed something (I heard No Leaf Clover one more time I'm going to spit.... course, belting it at the top of my lungs with the windows down, switching "when it comes to be" to "when you're constipated" the song becomes much more amusing...... light at the end of what tunnel? *smirk* There's a freight train coming you WAAAAAAAAYYYYY.....
*ahem*
sorry *sheepish grin* I get some really weird looks, though, specially singing it today while drivin my bro's truck)
Needless to say I bought the CD, it fit in with my music collection nicely..... a collection which ranges from old school Metallica, Priest and Iron Maiden to Against All Authority (who I'm gonna see on Monday *big grin*), The Broadways and the Line to Enya, Aquabats, Sisters of Mercy, ApB, Cruxshadows..... Tom Lehrer, Korn, Dr. Dirty, Limp Bizkit, Mahler, Beethoven, Sibelius and the list goes on to encompass 300 or so CDs. I have music for almost every occasion *smile* No country or rap, though..... *shudder* that ain't music, and I know my best friend will contest me on that til the day she dies *laughs* for the country part of it anyway
But I was amazed. Now, metal on cellos is something that takes a....uhm..... interested ear, to say the least. Most I just clicked through cause I wansn't in the mood. Oh, but then Nothing Else Matters came on...... and then Fade to Black, and I was duly impressed.
Which is something I find interesting. I couldn't listed to Nothing Else Matters for years.... as the year that album came out, one of my close friends got hit by a car and went into a coma, his parent ended up pulling the plug on him (as there was no chance of coming out of it much more than a partially functioning human being, if that at all)..... and the day of his funeral, while most of us were still in school and going to go afterwards since they kindly timed it for us that way, a nice lady across the street set her speakers out on the front lawn of her house, and played the song for us so that we would remember him, and that he was safe now, and, well, nothing else mattered..... took me a good three or so years before I could listen to the song and not be upset
You wouldn't expect to hear this on cellos..... ok, with the S&M album out maybe you would, but other than what's on the radio I haven't heard it. But god it sounded good. No voices, no nothing..... simple beautiful sound.... did I mention the cello was my favorite string?
Hell, I like mixing techno and industrial with opera, so why not metal and cellos? I'm quite pleased with the purchase....
Plugged it into my mom's system (the one that my dad pumped up with speakers 3/4 as tall as I am and a subwoofer that makes you drool) and put Nothing Else Matters on volume 8...... the floor vibrates, the windows rattle..... it's all good
Oh, another has discovered the wonder that is apocolyptica! Aren't they just... beautiful? [Azhben]
